Topics of Interest
Prospective participants interested in the topic are invited to submit either a position paper or a statement of interest. We welcome participation from all relevant fields, including researchers and practitioners from human-computer interaction, AI or computational linguistics, as well as those studying conversational AI from a social science or humanities perspecitve. Participation will be limited to 20 individuals to ensure a productive setting for active group work. When selecting participants, we will prioritize diversity, aiming to assemble a group that reflects a wide range of backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives relevant to the workshop's themes. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic use of linguistic or paralinguistic cues in CUIs
- Visual user interface design for domain-specific chatbots
- Mutual understanding and cognitive load in human-machine dialog
- Case studies of interaction and appropriation in specialized domains (e.g., health, education, journalism)
- Moving from open-domain LLMs to domain- or context-aware CAs
- Ethical implications and trust calibration in domain-specific CAs
- Interdisciplinary frameworks for CUI design
- CUI design for neurodivergent users, older users, or users with impairments
Submission Guidelines
We offer two different tracks for submission to encourage participation both by those with established research and those new to the field.
Position Papers
Format: 2-3 pages (ACM single-column format)
Position papers can present novel or provocative ideas, related research findings, planned projects or work-in-progress. Submissions will be reviewed by the workshop organizers and admitted based on their quality, relevance to the topic, and diversity. Position papers will be published on the workshop website (no archival publication). For each submission, at least one author should attend the workshop.
Statement of Interest
Format: max. 1 page
Alternatively, you may apply to participate in the workshop by submitting a brief statement mapping out your research interests, prior work in this domain, and motivation for attending the workshop. Position papers will be favoured over statements of interests in case we receive too many applications.
Important Dates, Submission & Participation
Submissions should be mailed directly to us. The organizing team will review all submissions and, in case there are more than 20 prospective participants, select participants based on topic fit and diversity, giving preference to those submitting position papers.
